WHAT ARE CONSUMER-DIRECTED SERVICES?
Consumer-directed services (CDS) is a program that allows those with certain qualifications to select a personal care attendant responsible for their care. These attendants can be qualified family members or friends over 18; however, specific individuals, such as spouses, are not eligible. The CDS program allows individuals with disabilities to receive care in the comfort of their homes instead of being cared for in in-patient facilities. HOW DO CONSUMER-DIRECTED SERVICES WORK?
After they have been selected, consumer-directed service attendants will be able to assist with a multitude of tasks to ensure your health and help you remain independent in your home. Some of these tasks that your attendant can help with include:
- Medications
- Meal preparation
- Housekeeping
- Laundry
- Transportation needs
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Cleaning
- Other daily living activities
